Custom Chimney Cap Installation

Chimney systems include several protective components designed to keep your chimney safe and prolong its life. These components include full-width chimney caps, flue covers, chimney chase covers, and top-mount dampers. Let’s look at each one and discover how they help your chimney and save you money.

Custom Full-Width Chimney Caps

Chimney caps are devices that sit at the top of the chimney, covering the flue opening as well as the concrete chimney crown. They have “breathable” sides to allow smoke and combustion gases to exit the chimney during a fire in the fireplace, but at the same time, they prevent fiery sparks and embers from sailing out of the flue and landing on the roof.

Most importantly, a proper full-width chimney cap provides the ultimate protection against rainwater infiltrating the chimney flue, where it can cause a variety of problems including chimney liner damage, brick decay, rust and mold growth.

National Chimney Service regularly installs custom chimney caps for our customers in Stamford CT, Morristown NJ, Norwalk CT, Chester NJ, and other communities in Fairfield County CT, and Morris County NJ.

Flue Covers/Flue Caps

Flue covers, also called flue caps, are protective devices that shield only the flue opening. They’re like little hats on top of your chimney. They provide all the benefits of a full-width chimney cap except for chimney crown protection.

Chimney Chase Covers

Chase covers or chase tops are found on prefab chimneys (made in a factory rather than built on-site by hand from bricks and mortar). Chimney chase covers protect the entire top of the chimney.

A common problem with chase covers over time is rusting due to construction with galvanized steel. Once rust starts, it will continue until most or all of the chase top has deteriorated. Our crews repair and replace damaged chimney chase covers with covers made from 316 UL Listed stainless steel.
